Special Shape Shutters for Chapel Conversion Forest of Dean

Arched Shape Shutters for Zion Chapel Conversion

We have recently installed a number of arched special shape shutters for a lady and her partner in the Forest of Dean. Our customer Vicky was in the process of renovating a converted Zion Chapel in Soudley and chose to have plantation shutters installed due to the shape and size of the windows.

Zion Chapel Soudley Renovation ProjectLocated in the Forest not too far from Coleford and Cinderford, the scenic village of Soudley is near to a series of beautiful ponds, and is looked after by the Parish Council, combined with nearby Ruspidge.

Built in 1846 for a congregation of the Bible Christian Society, Zion Chapel is at the top of a hill overlooking the village.

After the congregation dwindled, the chapel was left unoccupied for a number of years, coming under the care of the Dean Heritage Centre, and recently converted into a very unique-looking home.

Arched Shutters in Zion Chapel from ShuttercraftWe installed a number of shutters in the converted chapel as part of a much larger project that took 16 months to complete. As well as Shuttercraft, Vicky and her partner used a number of different tradespeople to carry out the work had to be done to turn the chapel into a home. Due to the listed status of the building, English Heritage also needed to be involved.

As the windows were all the original arch shapes, this reduced the number of other options, which is why made-to-measure shutters seemed like the best solution for Vicky. As most of the windows were also larger, it also made the hardwood Sumatra range the best choice of material for the shutters, being lightweight and perfectly malleable for the special shape of the arches.

Soudley Gloucestershire Zion Chapel Independent Methodist RenovationMade from sustainably sourced White Teak, Sumatra is our top of the range product, with a tight wood grain providing an incredible finish. As the wood has a high dimensional stability, the shutters can be enjoyed for years to come, safe in the knowledge that they are less likely to twist or warp than other shutters on the market.

Keeping in line with the aesthetics of the rest of the renovation work, Vicky and her partner chose the custom colour option, picking a shade from the Dulux Heritage range to match the windows. Centre tilt rods and 63mm louvres were chosen to control the light, based on personal preference.
